Invoking Spirits From Colonial America and the British Isles
Welcome to Fifing in The Wild West
I cordially welcome you to my fife and Scottish flute site. My name is Chris Nawoichik, a professional woodwind flautist of over 20 years. I grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts where I started with the recorder in the Fourth Grade, where I also learned to read music.
I then joined the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companie in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. I reenacted the battles of Lexington and Concord of April 19th, 1775. Then I subsequently branched off into celtic music to get in touch with my Anglo-Saxon ancestral roots. I play a Scottish flute made by Ormiston, and other Irish instruments such as the Bodhrán and penny whistle.
In addition to the European military fife, I can also play the rudimental snare drum, which traditionally accompanies the fife from its heritage roots.
